And now for a little political message…
After years of Liberal broken promises to introduce a national childcare program, the last minority parliament forced small steps in the right direction. While far from a national system of childcare, the federal transfer of funding to the provinces to create childcare spaces was an important step. The Conservatives have committed to stop that funding after next March.
Canadians are fighting back. Since February 24th, more than 4,500 parents, grandparents, child care workers and activists have signed onto an open letter urging the Conservatives and the premiers to honour the child care agreements. Go to www.buildchildcare.ca to add your name and to see what other Canadians are saying about child care. The $1,200 promise is not enough! We need a child care system that provides quality, affordable care delivered by trained child care workers.
If you don’t have time to send an email to encourage the Prime Minister to continue with plans for a national child care plan, then please take a second to sign this petition!
