Why chez Kirby?
Because j’adore la langue française. I lived in Belgium for a year, and it made me (up until fairly recently) bilingual in both official languages. Of course, living as far away from Quebec, and Belgium for that matter, in Canada as I do, there’s not a whole lot of opportunity to practice. So, instead I use the little French I have left to flourish my blog with it’s beauty. C’est ça.
Oh, and because I married a Kirby.
I also had two children with him. We live in Victoria, the Capital city, and the home of all things political in British Columbia. I spend every waking hour looking after my kids. When I’m not cooking, cleaning, or reading bedtime stories, I’m stealing time on my laptop, gardening, reading, or writing. I love food, and I love to bake. And I do all of this, while listening to the CBC radio.
In the last year or so, I’ve found my passion in child care advocacy. It’s been a great learning experience, and led me to discover my inner politician. The timing is not ideal, as I still have two small kids at home, but I’ll get out there soon enough.
My goal is to see a universal child care system implemented in Canada. I’m not sure how we’ll get there, but I’m going to make certain that quality, affordable, accessible child care is a reality for Canadians. Mark. My. Words!
I also want to see more women in Politics. Because men and women are different, and we need to see women’s priorities reflected in the laws and governance of our country.
Either way, I’m going to change the world.
